How Much Does Kitchen Remodeling Cost In Minneapolis?

Gain Insight Into The Costs To Transform Kitchens in Our Twin Cities Region

At Executive Remodeling, we’ve been specializing in residential Twin Cities kitchen transformations since 2005. Of all the remodeling services we provide as a professional design-build firm, we’re most often working on these spaces (around half the time as part of larger projects like Whole-House Remodeling and Home Additions).

One of the most common questions we’re asked when folks reach out to us is,

How much does it cost to remodel my kitchen in Minneapolis?

And, as you might expect, it’s impossible to give you a specific number over the phone. Kitchen remodeling is complex, very involved work with tons of variables that will be unique to you and your Minneapolis home.

Bottom Line: Your overall budget will be based on the scope of work that needs to be completed to give you the exact kitchen you want and need, based on the many selections you’ll make with our design team – flooring, lighting, cabinetry, storage, countertops, backsplash, etc.

That said, let’s look at some generalities using our Kitchen Remodel Pricing page as a guide.

Average Costs Of Minneapolis Kitchen Remodeling

We’re based in Saint Louis Park, so we service the Twin Cities area and have been involved in kitchen remodeling across the area since 2005 (check out our Service Areas). We tend to break down these projects into three simple categories – Basic, Average, and High-End.

Let’s take a quick look.

Basic Kitchen Remodeling | $70K & Up

These are typically kitchen remodels only, without any further remodeling being done to other connected rooms or areas. They also tend to need zero to very limited amounts of structural changes. What we’re usually doing is updating the major components in the kitchen without adding anything dynamic or making layout changes. Features could include:

  • Large Single Or Double Sink
  • Pantry Cabinet
  • Custom Cabinetry
  • Hard Surface Counters
  • New Tile Backsplash

Average Kitchen Remodeling | $95K & Up

Most customers in the Minneapolis area fall within this category. Keep in mind, the costs are more because we’re often incorporating other things into the overall scope (kitchen + bathroom, or kitchen + new dining area, etc.). These kitchen remodeling projects include some structural work – to create a more spacious or open layout – and include more features like:

  • Large Single Or Double Sink
  • Pantry Cabinet
  • Custom Cabinetry
  • Hard Surface Counters
  • New Tile Backsplash
  • Spacious Layout
  • New Storage Options

High-End Kitchen Remodeling | $125K & Up

High-end kitchen remodeling tends to include more complex structural work, from additions to expansions. They also incorporate more higher-end material for things like countertops and backsplashes. You also tend to see new custom cabinetry and storage systems, as well as updated appliances and fixtures. With high-end remodels come high-end features, including:

  • High-Style Faucets/Sinks
  • New Cabinetry Layout
  • Custom High-End Cabinetry
  • Premium Countertops
  • High-End Backsplash
  • Premium Hardwood Flooring
  • Ample High-End Lighting
  • Custom Carpentry Work
  • All New Plumbing
  • Additions/Expansion

Major Contributors To Kitchen Remodeling Budgets

Two primary factors affect the total cost of a kitchen remodel: the scope of work and the products/materials required.

Scope of Work

When you sit down with our team during initial Consultations, we’ll talk all about your remodeling goals, needs, desires, and budget while going through any potential challenges we’ll face and what will be involved. From there, we’ll deliver and go through a professional line-by-line estimate with you a few days later so you understand every variable cost.

The biggest contributor to your budget will be the overall scope.

  • Are we making structural and layout changes?
  • Are we building an addition and expanding the kitchen area?
  • Are we making room for and installing new windows?

With every change, there’s a cost.

Here are some things to note concerning the scope of work for a kitchen remodel:

  • Labor and trades take up around 50% of the budget (tile specialist, electrician, plumber, carpenter, framing/construction, etc.). We manage these for you.
  • While size definitely makes a difference, you’d be amazed at what we can do with small to moderately-sized kitchen spaces.
  • The age of your home is going to play a role as well. The older the home, the more likely it is that repairs and some structural work will need to be done.

Material Choices

Once we decide to work together and you agree to our estimate, we’ll give you a selection sheet with every product and material you need to choose for us to complete the kitchen we’ve designed.

Each selection will come with a budget limit to help you keep everything within your initial budget. Will we be available to help with these choices? Yes. Our designer and team are there to ensure you get the best kitchen remodel possible and will provide as much professional insight, suggestions, and recommendations as you need.

Here are the “big ticket” selections you’ll make that will have a large impact on the cost of your kitchen remodeling transformation:

  • Custom Cabinetry: We work with an extremely talented, all-custom cabinet maker here in the U.S. They’re simply incredible and will work with you to get the picture-perfect new cabinetry for your kitchen in a selection of different woods. These are of very high quality and add substantial value to your kitchen once built and installed.
  • Countertop selection: We leave this decision up to you, but again, we can help with recommendations based on your budget and other variables (like weight and cost).
  • Appliances: Most average to high-end kitchen remodels involve new, updated appliances. The sky’s the limit here, but new models don’t tend to come cheap.
  • Backsplash Tile: These come in such a wide variety! From simple subway tile to something extremely colorful and high-quality, backsplashes are an integral part of the aesthetic (and serve functional purposes as well) that will increase budget costs.
  • Plumbing Fixtures: When there is restructuring involved, plumbing is typically involved. Maybe we’re moving the sink area, or maybe we’re doing a completely new layout that will need a new, updated plumbing system. This is a big part of budgeting costs.
